AUBURN- Frances R. (Hamel) Sparks, 87, of Auburn died Friday September 2, 2016 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Springfield daughter of the late Leo and Florence T. (Quinlivan) Hamel. She graduated from Technical High School in 1946 and attended St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Frances had worked in retail merchandising most of her life with jobs at Dillard’s Department Store in Texas and Penny’s back in the New England area. Later in her life she enjoyed antiquing and collecting anything that had the Disney character Pluto on it.

Her husband, Alfred J. Sparks died in 1993. She leaves two daughters, Margaret Sparks of Auburn and Mary Ellen Barker of Port Charlotte, FL; a son, Thomas W. Sparks of Auburn; a sister, Mary Hamel of Hampden, MA; five grandchildren, Amy Cisco and her husband, Beau of Wellington FL, Brian G. Barker of Charleston, SC, Andrew M. Barker and his wife, Tara of Suffolk, VA, Margaret A. Kaplan and husband Levi of Fayetteville, NC and Dylan T. Sparks of South Hadley, MA; four great grandchildren, Malena, Ryleigh, Caroline and Charlotte; also survived by a daughter-in-law, Colette Sparks of Maine and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Edward M. Sparks and a daughter, Elizabeth A. Sparks; a son-in-law, Alan Barker; four brothers, Frederick, Paul, Joseph and Leo and her twin sister, Florence.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Frances’ family on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 3-6 pm in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
