Obituary for Veronica M. "Ronnie" Gaskill

Veronica M. “Ronnie” (McDermott) Gaskill, 87, of Auburn MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald A. Gaskill, who passed in 2010. Ronnie leaves her loving children, Terryann Gawronski and her husband Jeff, of Auburn, Donald Gaskill and his wife Kimberly, of North Easton, and Amy O’Rourke and her husband Brian, of Oak Hill, VA and her beloved grandchildren, Lily, Micaela, Sophia, Christopher, Patrick, Nathan, and Nora.

Ronnie was born in Astoria Queens, New York, of the late Hugh and Nora McDermott. At the age of 18, she entered the convent of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville NY and began her lifelong service in education as a teacher. There she met her true love Donald Gaskill, a Marianist brother, they started a life together and were married in 1971.

Ronnie received a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from St. John’s University and a Master’s degree in Education from Southern CT University. Ronnie was a dedicated elementary and middle school teacher for over 35 years in NY City and Guilford CT. Ronnie loved teaching. It brought her much joy and she impacted many lives.

Ronnie had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends. She was a strong Scottish woman who taught her children and grandchildren the importance of family, to take care of others, to be unwavering in whatever you do and to not take things too seriously. Her kind, loving and colorful spirit will be missed terribly, but not forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boys and Girls Village in Milford CT.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Ronnie’s funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn with a Celebration of Life reception following at J. Anthony’s Italian Grill, 917 Southbridge St, Auburn.
