Obituary for Warner R. Hill

Warner R. Hill, 91, longtime Auburn resident, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at UMASS Memorial Hospital-University Campus with his loving family by his side.

Born and raised in Worcester, Warner was one of four children born to late Henry and Marie (Boucher) Hill. He attended Worcester Boys Trade School. Warner enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1950 and served three years during the Korean Conflict. He re-enlisted in 1954, this time, with the United States Marines, proudly serving the country until being honorably discharged in June of 1955.

Back in Worcester, Warner then met a lovely girl by the name of Evelyn Darrell, they married in Worcester on Saturday, June 13, 1959 and later settled in Auburn where they raised their three children. Warner had a long career of 30 years with the United Postal Service as a Letter Carrier before retiring in 1988.

He leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn K. (Darrell) Hill; his son, Richard C. Hill and his wife Karen of Chelmsford; two daughters, Jean M. Small and her husband Stephen of Raleigh, NC and Linda L. Wakeen of Worcester; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; brother Kenneth Hill and his wife Pat. Along with his parents, Warner was pre-deceased by his two sisters, Shirley and Barbara.

Relative and friends are invited to visit with Warner’s family on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am followed by a service celebrating his life at 11am in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St, Auburn. Burial with military honors will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn, MA.
