Obituary for Linda Mae Vernon (Wennerberg)
Linda Mae (Wennerberg) Vernon, of Sutton and formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully on the morning of Mother’s Day, Sunday May 9, 2021, in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. She is reunited with her cherished daughter, Kristen Stowe, and infant son, Mark Vernon; her mother, Bertha (Dube) Wennerberg; her father, Evald V. Wennerberg; his second wife, Rita M. (Simoneau) Wennerberg; and his third wife, Rosalma J. (Lord) Wennerberg, who loved Linda like she was her own.
Linda leaves her beloved partner of forty years, Leonard Yursha, of Sutton; and her children, Michelle Chunis (Thomas), of Millbury, Steven Vernon, of Sutton, Kevin Vernon, of Pomfret, CT, Nicole Vernon-Mandella (David), of Sutton; Scott Vernon (Maureen), of Sutton; and Melissa Vernon (Jeff), of Sutton. She also leaves seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her siblings, Carol Lambert, of Rutland, and Ronald Wennerberg, of Rehoboth, many nieces and nephews, and extended family, including Kent Stowe (Denise).
Born in Worcester, raised and educated in Auburn, Linda was a proud graduate of Auburn’s Class of 1962. She then began her career at UMASS Medical School, where she dedicated 27 years as an administrative secretary. Most recently, Linda worked part-time for the Millbury Housing Authority.
She was a woman of many talents and joys – she loved crafting, crocheting, and rug-making. Linda loved spending time outdoors, whether it was going for rides with Lenny exploring New England, finding yard sales and antiques, or just gardening at home. She was kind, patient, and loving, who cherished her family over everything. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and pets were her loves. Linda enjoyed learning about her Swedish heritage, of which she was so proud. She will be deeply missed, but celebrated everyday by those she loved.
She especially cherished time spent with her beloved Leonard.
Linda loved spending time at Hawk Hill Apple Orchard, which was founded by family.
She was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn, where her grandparents were founding members and assisted in the construction of the church.
Her family would like to sincerely thank the hands-on care of Salmon Hospice and support of Tri-Valley Elder Services, her family caregivers Nicole, Melissa, Shannon, Justin; and Lisa, a staff member who became family throughout the journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salmon Hospice, 37 Birch Street, Milford, MA 01757, and/or to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/donate).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Linda’s funeral service, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Ave., Auburn, where masks, social distancing measures, and contact tracing will be required. The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
