Obituary for Walter S "Wally" Higgins

Walter S "Wally" Higgins
Walter “Wally” S. Higgins, Jr, 69, of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at UMass Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carol L. (Biuso) Higgins, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years.

Born, raised and educated in Worcester, Wally was one of 13 children of Rita (Cyr) and Walter S. Higgins, Sr. Wally graduated from Burncoat High School in 1968 and shortly after enlisted in the US Army National Guard. In 1971 he married Carol, who he had known most of his life, and the couple settled in Shrewsbury as they began to build their future together. He worked at Henry L. Hanson Manufacturing Co. as a machinist before he went to work as a quality control inspector with the Form Roll Die, Inc. from where he retired in 2005.

Wally will be most remembered for his love of his family. He loved to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. The holidays brought an extra special sense of joy as did their family adventures to local beaches and their vacation home in Florida.

In his spare time, Wally also loved gardening, music, classic cars, and coaching a number of local youth teams. However, his true passion was golf, a hobby to which he dedicated significant time. His interest in golf began at a young age when he worked as a caddy and that passion was carried throughout his life, he could often be found playing golf, watching golf, or teaching golf.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by his children Michael J. Higgins and his wife Tracy of Shrewsbury, Nicole Lucey and her husband Martin of Shrewsbury, his grandchildren Cora, Connor, Colin, Violet, Dylan, siblings Judith LeFort, Gary Higgins, Elliott Higgins, Alan Higgins, Peter Higgins, Ronald Higgins, Margaret Counihan, Mary Ann Beeler, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings Nancy Higgins, David Higgins, Jane Conti and Joan Pabley.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Wally’s family beginning at 9:30 AM on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 PM at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury
