Obituary for Corinne Smith (Maynard)

Corinne Smith (Maynard)
Corinne (Maynard) Smith of Trumbull, CT died Friday, July 27, 2018, just four days short of her 92nd birthday. A long-time resident of Shrewsbury, she was the wife of the late Jeremy Warren Smith, to whom she was married for 54 years.

She is survived by her children, Valerie Gosset (Conrad) of Connecticut, Amy Moroney (Paul) of Virginia, and Lucinda Smith of Virginia; as well as grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan (Claire), and Sarah Moroney; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, the late Irving Maynard, Raymond Maynard and Kermit Maynard.

Corinne was born in North Grafton to the late Edmund and Lena Maynard. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1944 and then worked at Norton Company. After marrying Jerry in 1950, she spent many years caregiving, first for her daughters, and then for Jerry during his 25 years of dialysis treatment.

Corinne was an avid square dancer at Bay Path Barn in Boylston and enjoyed music and travel. She played the piano and prided herself on shopping for bargains. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury for many years. In her later years she took classes through the Worcester Institute for Senior Education, and lived for a year at Briarwood in Worcester.

The family would like to thank the staff of Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull for their outstanding care over the last 3-1/2 years. Donations in Corinne’s memory may be made to the One Company Fund, c/o Benchmark Senior Living, 201 Jones Road – Suite 300 West, Waltham, MA 02451. The One Company Fund aids Benchmark caregivers who have financial hardships not of their own making.
