Rebecca C Day (Payne)
Rebecca Christine (Payne) Day, 95, of Auburn died peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2018 at UMass Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester. She was the wife of the late Leverett M. Day with whom she shared 72 years in marriage.

Born in Boylston, the daughter of the late Ralph and Christine (Randall) Payne. Rebecca and her family settled in Auburn in 1939. She graduated from Auburn High School class of 1941.

Rebecca is survived by her children, Ellen C. Gaboury of Auburn and her fiancé Stewart Barden, Neal A. Day and his wife Phyllis of Brookfield, MA, Kevin R. Day and his wife Laurel of Easthampton, MA, Alan M. Day and his wife Carol of Chattanooga, TN, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rebecca was predeceased by one grandchild.

Becky, as she was known, was an accomplished pianist and organist. She faithfully served the Lord with these talents in various churches for over 70 years. In 2002, the Auburn News called her a “Jill of all Arts”. In addition to her musical talents, she painted beautiful landscapes and still life oil paintings, crocheted, knitted and quilted. She taught painting at the Auburn senior center for many years and played the piano for the Auburn Senior Center Swingers performing troupe. As part of the Auburn Senior Center, she joined with others to crochet lap robes for disabled American veterans and knit mittens and hats for school children in need. In her younger years she enjoyed candlepin bowling and in her later years she liked to do crossword puzzles and play scrabble.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, June 1st from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held privately.
