Obituary for Vivian I. Grimley (Bates)
Vivian I. (Bates) Grimley, 94, of Auburn died Tuesday March 20, 2018 in Hermitage Healthcare in Worcester.
Vivian was born and raised in Upton, daughter of the late Daniel and Ina (Pond) Bates. She attended Upton High School, then lived in several states while raising her family before settling in Auburn.
Her husband of sixty-seven years, Edward L. Grimley, Jr died in 2009. She leaves two sons, Edward L. Grimley, III of Maine and Daniel Grimley and his wife Eileen of North Grafton; a daughter Patricia Baker and her husband Roger of Leicester; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and dear friends including Florence Richards and Helen Barton. She was predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters.
Vivian will be remembered by those who knew her for her vivacious personality, her great sense of humor, and her ever-warm heart. She ensured there was never a grandchild left unspoiled nor a stray animal left unfed. Her deep laugh will be missed but resonates through those she left behind.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Vivian’s family on Tuesday April 24, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St, Auburn followed by a prayer service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Saint John Cemetery, Worcester. Luncheon to follow at J Anthony’s, 917 Southbridge St., Auburn. Memorial donations may be made to www.dementiasociety.org.
