Obituary for Thomas Frederic Brigham

Thomas Frederic Brigham
Thomas Frederic Brigham, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, March 24, 2018 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Elinore (Hagen) Brigham who predeceased him in 2004. The two enjoyed forty-one years of marriage.

Thomas (Tom) was born in Springfield, MA in 1935. He was the son of the late Frederic and Elsie (Roberts) Brigham. He lived in Somersville, CT, Prescott, AZ, and Wilbraham, MA before settling in Worcester, MA with his wife. Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 as a “Sea Bee”. During his years of service, Tom achieved the rank of Petty Officer. Tom worked as a senior insurance appraiser specializing in heavy equipment and retired from Traveler’s Insurance Co. Over the course of his career he also sold trucks & heavy equipment for International Harvester and the Day Brothers GMC Truck Dealership of Auburn, MA. For over twenty-five years he owned and operated Tom’s Welding Service, a welding and machine shop specializing in precision welding and some aero-space work. He liked to stay busy!

Even in retirement Tom stayed busy. He travelled extensively by pulling his 5th wheel camper across all 48 contiguous states alongside his wife. When at home, he enjoyed reading, especially non-fiction books related to WW II, taking care of his property, and spending time with friends and family.

Tom was proud to have been involved with motorcycling for 59 years and rode in competition events well into his 50s. He was a member of the Rams Motorcycle Club and maintained his friendship with these special men throughout his life.

Tom is survived by his son, James and his wife Marie of Upton, MA along with his two grandchildren, Owen and Caroline and son, Glenn and his wife Danielle of Holden, MA. He leaves behind Mrs. Versa Rae Waite of Longmeadow, MA with whom he enjoyed travel and companionship. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Brigham and a sisters Eileen Clark, Bernice Gagne, and Majorie Milnes.

Services for Tom will be private at his request. Friends and family members will gather for a day of remembrance in the weeks to come. He will be laid to rest at the Pine Grove Cemetery in West Brookfield, MA.
