Obituary for Clifford A Granger

Clifford A Granger
Clifford Alden Granger, 102, the oldest citizen in the Town of Auburn and holder of the Boston Post Cane died peacefully Wednesday September 27, 2017 in the Life Care Center of Auburn.

Clifford was born and raised in Auburn, son of the late Harry S. and Nora (Senecal) Granger. Mr. Granger worked on the family farm on Prospect Street until he graduated from South High School in 1934, one year before classes began at the first Auburn High School.

He then met the love of his life, Frances Lamb at Sibley’s Tea House in Auburn where she was a waitress. They were married on September 11, 1939 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 62 years before Frances died in 2001.

For the next 32 years, he owned and operated CA Granger Furniture Restoration Store on Pleasant Street in Worcester and worked at Phalo Wire and Cable in Worcester and Shrewsbury. Later he also worked as a consultant for Belden Wire and Cable.

Mr. Granger was definitely a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, and hunting in the backwoods in the State of Maine with his son. He loved being independent and maintained a large vegetable garden and cared for his yard until he was almost 100 years old.

He leaves his loving son, Donald A. Granger and his life partner, Lorraine Gardner of Auburn; a niece and a nephew. Besides his wife, Frances Clifford was predeceased by a brother Homer Granger.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mr. Granger’s family on Monday October 2, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 am in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A service honoring his life will begin at 11:00 am. Burial next to his beloved wife will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Memorial donations may be made to the Auburn Historical Society, 41 South Street, Auburn, MA 01501.
