Obituary for Daniel S. Horgan Jr.

Daniel S.  Horgan Jr.
Daniel S. "Dan" Horgan, Jr., 81, of Auburn passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at St. Mary Health Care Center in Worcester.

Dan was born in Worcester, son of the late Daniel S. Horgan, Sr., and Mary (Burns) Horgan. He lived in Auburn for 76 years. He graduated from Auburn High School, class of 1954, where he is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Massachusetts, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Dan owned and operated Horgan Construction Company for twenty-five years before becoming Superintendent of Auburn Water District.

Dan was a member of the Auburn Rotary Club where he worked on many community projects. He was also a member of Saint Joseph's Parish.

Dan loved to get in the car for a quick getaway with Mary. He enjoyed traveling to Saratoga, NY, Vermont, Cape Cod, and Maryland.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Lee) Horgan; his children, Daniel and his Patricia of Auburn, Michael and his wife Maureen of Southborough, Kathleen Philbin and her husband John of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Maureen L. Horgan of Auburn; his beloved grandchildren, Patrick and Jay Horgan, Erin and Michael Horgan and Meghan and Caroline Philbin; also survived by several nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by two sisters, Joan Rosseel and Anne Blanton.

The Horgan family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary Health Care for their kindness and support during the past year.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Horgan family on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 pm in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Monday, July 31, 2017 with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10:00 am in Saint Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn Fire and Rescue, 47 Auburn St, Auburn, MA 01501.
