Obituary for Sarah E. "Sally" Young (Moriarty)

Sarah E. "Sally" Young (Moriarty)
Sarah E.”Sally” (Moriarty) Young, 92, of Auburn died Wednesday March 1, 2017 in Care One at Millbury surrounded by her loving family.

Her husband of 67 years, George R. Young died in 2015. She leaves her loving children, David J. and his wife Michele of Littleton, CO, Kathryn Y. Lucente and her husband Dominic of Ashland, NH, Daniel T. and his wife, Marybeth of Auburn, Sara E. Donaruma and her husband John of Hampden, John T. and his wife, Dianne of Holden and Timothy A. and his wife, Gail of Shrewsbury; she is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Maura E. Young, who died in 1986, her three siblings, Timothy Moriarty, John “Hank’ Moriarty and Elizabeth (Betty) Jones Boucher, and a daughter-in-law, Karen M. (Vayo) Young.

Sally was born and raised in Southbridge, daughter of the late Timothy J. and Beatrice (Tully) Moriarty. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and later graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

Sally worked as a Registered Nurse at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge for several years before dedicating her early and middle married years to raising her seven children in her home of thirty-one years in Auburn. In the home, Sally enjoyed quilting and rug braiding (when she had time!) and she also enjoyed candlepin bowling with friends in women's leagues in Worcester. After George retired, the couple moved to Hyannis where she enjoyed an active life of golf, gardening, and hosting her children's visits, often with grandchildren. During these retirement years, winters were spent in Florida with George and many friends and acquaintances from New England. The warmer weather provided an opportunity to enjoy swimming, walking and especially shuffleboard.

Sally’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Care One at Millbury, especially the staff of the Shrewsbury Unit, for their exceptional loving care over the 2 years Sally was in their care. Also, special thanks to Ascend Hospice for their help and care in Sally’s final weeks.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sally’s family on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 4:00-6:30 pm in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St, Auburn. Her funeral will be on Monday. March 6, 2017 with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 am in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
