Obituary for Gertrude B. Moore (Desilets)

SHREWSBURY- Gertrude B. (Desilets) Moore, 92, of Shrewsbury died Sunday October 11, 2015 in her daughter’s home in Peterborough, NH after a brief illness.

She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Wilfrid and Eva (Comeau) Desilets. She graduated from Girls’ Trade High School.

In 1945, she married her childhood sweetheart, George O. Moore.

When first married, she worked as a professional seamstress on Long Island. After moving to Shrewsbury in 1953, she was a full-time Mom until her youngest child reached school age. She then held various office, payroll, bookkeeping and personnel jobs for several companies throughout the Worcester County area until her retirement in 1982. As an accomplished seamstress, she had made many memorable items for her family, friends and clients

With her “if I put my mind to it, I can do it” attitude, she mastered every hobby and interest she enjoyed – dancing, stained- glass work, crocheting, embroidery. She took many memorable trips throughout the US and abroad, but her favorite vacation time was spent with her family at her summer home on Sebago Lake in Maine. Gertrude was a faithful member of Saint Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury.

Her best friend and husband of 27 years, George O. “Bud” Moore died in 1972. She leaves behind a daughter, Gail L. Reno and her husband, Roy of Peterborough, NH; three grandchildren, Courtney Warren and her husband, Daniel of Brookline, NH, Jesse Reno of NYC and Benjamin Moore of Waltham, MA; three great grandchildren, Wesley and Dexter Warren and Caleb Reno; four sisters, Theresa Auger of Westborough, Yvette Plante of Worcester, Lorraine Charest of Charlton and Claire Fontaine of Riverside, CA; and a sister-in-law, Victoria Boville of Maine, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three sons, Wayne C. Moore, Alan W. Moore, and her first-born who died in infancy George O. “Little Buddy” Moore; a brother, Lt. Wilfrid Desilets, Jr., and two sisters, Jeanne Spear and Lillian Dupuis.

Friends and relatives of Gertrude’s are invited to attend a funeral Mass that will be celebrated on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St, Shrewsbury. Burial will be private at a later date. In Gertrude’s memory, please help a sick child with a donation to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
