Obituary for Francis Robert Vaugh

Francis Robert  Vaugh
Francis R. Vaugh, 89 a longtime Auburn resident, died peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, following an illness.

He leaves his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret E. (Gray) Vaugh; his three loving children, Stephen D. Vaugh of Saugerties, NY, Elaine Murphy of West Warwick, RI and Brian M. Vaugh and his wife Mary of Paxton; his two grandsons, Ryan and Kyle Murphy; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, John, Albert, Shirley and Raymond. Francis was born in Worcester, a son of the late William and Beatrice L. (Giles) Vaugh and has lived in Auburn for many years. He attended the former Commerce High School, and was called to serve with the US Army during World War II while still in school. Following the war, Francis returned to Worcester and graduated from Commerce. He then began a career as a teller for several area banks. He then joined the Wyman-Gordon Company, Worcester office where he worked as a timekeeper for over 25 years, before retiring in 1986. He was a 50 year member of the former Isaiah Thomas Lodge of Masons in Worcester, and was a member of its’ successor, the Morning Star Ledge of Masons, Worcester. Francis loved photography, reading and model railroading. He found his greatest joy in being surrounded by his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Francis’ family on Friday, October 4th from 5-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A private graveside service will be held in Maine at a later time for his family. Instead of flowers, the family requests that a donation in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
