Marjorie Ada Rosalie (Skeates) Usher, 95, of Worcester passed away at UMass Memorial Hospital on January 1, 2013. She was born on October 16, 1917 in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School. She and her husband lived in the same house for 70 years and proudly raised nine children there.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Leroy D. Usher III and two sons, Leroy D. Usher IV and James R. Usher. Her surviving children are Marjorie Powell and her husband Ronald of Poland Springs, ME, Arthur S. and his wife Gene of Tinmouth, VT, Edward W. and his wife Gail of Auburn, MA, William Thomas and his wife, Kathleen of Brownsville, ME, Elizabeth Chase and her husband Barry of Sterling, MA, Joseph C. and his wife Brenda of Leicester, MA, and Susan Bergman and her husband Donald of Leicester, MA. Marjorie is survived by 24 grandchildren, 30 great and great-great grandchildren.
Marjorie's interests included traveling, gardening, sewing and tending to the children. During her lifetime she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States including trips to Alaska and a trip to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary. Like her parents before her, she enjoyed gardening. Her flower beds brought her great pleasure and brightened her yard. Her summer days were often spent canning fruits and vegetables from the garden. She enjoyed sewing clothes for herself and her children and knit mittens every winter for her grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Life Care of Auburn where she had been a resident for the past six months.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
